Indigenous Relations

award-small

Building and maintaining strong relationships and learning from Indigenous communities is essential to our long-term success and to the protection of the animals, plants, land, air, and water in the areas we operate.

Our approach to indigenous relations and engagement has been shaped through discussions with indigenous leaders, elders, and community members and we continue to request feedback on how we can improve our engagement practices.

We aim to work together with Indigenous communities to proactively identify potential impacts of our activities on the community and environment, and to develop mutually acceptable solutions.

Project Forest Cumberland House Cree Nation Food & Medicine Forest

Tidewater Midstream is proud to be a founding partner of Project Forest. In 2020, we made a 5-year commitment to plant at least 20,000 trees to help reforest our nation and reduce our carbon footprint. As part of that commitment, in 2022 we planted over 5,300 trees, including 1,355 trees on the Cumberland House Cree Nation Food and Medicine Forest in Saskatchewan.

Project Forest, in consultation with the Nation and Climate Smart Services, is working to reintroduce traditional foods and medicines that are no longer present in the Cumberland House First Nation community. In partnership with Cumberland House Cree Nation and Cumberland Wood Products, Project Forest is planting a traditional food and medicine forest, re-establishing traditional plants and land usage in the community.
